Growing from Scraps! ...Celery

One thing that I really love about growing food from scraps is that most of them grow really fast!  It may take a bit to see an actual harvest, but daily (sometimes hourly!) you can see changes that let you know your food is growing!  Here is one thing that you will love to watch grow... CELERY:

It's so easy anyone can do it!  Help your kids cut off the bottom portion of the celery bunch, then allow them to grow their own celery!  Who knows?  They may even eat it if they've grown it themselves! :)

1.  Cut the bottom of your celery bunch as shown.
2.  Place in a container of water with about half of the cutting in the water to root. Sit it near a sunny window.
3.  After about 3 days you will see a cute little stalk beginning to form.
4.  After about another week your celery is growing nicely and you will see roots on the bottom of your cutting.

At this time, you can transplant your cutting into a container filled with potting soil up to the leaves.  Leave the leaves outside of the soil.  Water generously and put back in your sunny window and BE AMAZED at what you will see every day!  Your children will love watching you GROWING FROM SCRAPS!
